Eleven people aboard a crashed Russian Mi-8 military helicopter were confirmed to be killed as their bodies were found in Russia's southern Altai mountains on Tuesday.
The bodies of three crew members and eight snowboard sportsmen, who asked the crew to ferry them to the top of the Altai mountains for rolling down, were discovered after hours of search, the Defense Ministry's press service reported.
The plane belonging to the Defense Ministry lost radio contact with ground controller at 08:30 Moscow time (0430GMT). Search and rescue operation started two hours later and the crash site was soon located at an altitude of 3,000 to 3,500 meters from the air.
Preliminary investigation said rarefied atmosphere and strong wind hindered the helicopter from gaining altitude and caused its crash into a slope.
