Iraq Urges World to Show Solidarity, Resist US Attacks
Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz on Tuesday urged the world to show solidarity with Baghdad and resist the hostile policy of the United States, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz on Tuesday urged the world to show solidarity with Baghdad and resist the hostile policy of the United States, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Aziz called on "all the independent states and free people in the world to show solidarity (with Iraq) and use all possible means to resist the U.S. policy which has become a great danger to world peace and stability," the INA said.
"The U.S. threats of launching widespread aggression against Iraq represent a dangerous phenomenon not only for Iraq but also for all the independent states in the world," Aziz told an international solidarity conference held in Baghdad.
By threatening to attack Iraq, the United States is menacing the security and stability in the Mideast region, Aziz said.
According to the senior Iraqi official, U.S. attempts to attack Iraq are due to "the independence of the Iraqi national leadership."
Aziz chastised the U.S. claim that Iraq has been threatening its neighbors, stressing that Iraq has rehabilitated good relations with its neighboring countries and is determined to resolve outstanding issues with them.
To avert a possible U.S. military campaign, Iraq has launched a diplomatic offensive and has markedly improved relations with neighbors such as Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
U.S. President George W. Bush has branded Iraq as part of an " axis of evil" and made no secret that the United States wants to see a regime change in Iraq.
