Two radical Palestinian groups on May 6 expressed at Gaza their concerns over an upcoming deal to end the the standoff in Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity by deporting some Palestinians to Italy and 40 others to the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said in two separated leaflets delivered in Gaza that "accepting the principle of deportation (by the Palestinian National Authority) is a dangerous step of concession to the Israeli side."

"What makes concerns grow up is that the accepting the principleof deporting Palestinians out of their homeland is coming after pressure practiced by the United States and Europe on the PNA," said the Hamas leaflet.

The PFLP leaflet said that they would oppose the deportation of six Palestinian militants holed up in the Church of the Nativity toItaly, "even if the deportation is temporary."

"Instead of solving the tragedy of more than 200 Palestinians holed up in the church without food and water by deporting them from their homeland, the Palestinians, the Arabs and other human rights organizations should help releasing them," said the PFLP leaflet.

About 200 people took refuge in the Church of the Nativity sinceApril 2 when the Israeli army and tanks entered the West Bank city of Bethlehem.

Negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel, with the help of U.S. and European mediators, are underway to try to solve the standoff.
