Arafat in High Spirits to Bring Things Back to Normal: Egyptian FM

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said here on Sunday Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat is in high spirits to bring the situation back to normal in the aftermath of a month-long Israeli onslaught on the Palestinians.
Speaking at a press briefing after returning to Amman from a meeting with Arafat in the West Bank town of Ramallah, Maher said he conveyed a message of congratulation and support from Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to the Palestinian leader, who was just freed from a four-week Israeli siege and confinement to his headquarters.
"I saw President Arafat in high spirit with his comrades around him having the same strong will to bring the situation back to normal," Maher said.
His talks with Arafat focused on steps to be taken in the future towards a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees the Palestinian people's rights, Maher said.
He was flown into the Palestinian territories and back to Amman by a Jordanian helicopter. Maher thanked Jordan for assisting him in the traffic, which he said reflected the close cooperation between Egypt and Jordan in the Mideast peace process.
Jordan and Egypt are the only two Arab states to have signed peace treaties with Israel.
