Two car bombs exploded Wednesday near the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid wounding several people including two national police agents, according to sources from the investigation.

Basque homeland and freedom (ETA) detonated these explosives, which were stolen last March 28. The first car bomb, which contained 20 kilograms of explosives, had its license plates disfigured and was stolen that same day in Madrid, said the local police department.

The second car bomb exploded a half hour later at the Embajadores area. The car was the same one the terrorists escaped in after detonating the first car bomb, according to the authorities.

The second car bomb had one kilogram of dynamite placed underneath the driver's seat and it seemed as if it too had its license plates folded to conceal its identity.

The police said that 25 minutes prior to the explosion, an individual warned local daily Gara of the car bomb, and security forces were informed right away.

The police had enough time to seal the area but not to conduct a controlled explosion of the vehicle, so a number of people were wounded, including two national police agents.

Sources from the emergency service of the Madrid Community 112 said they also received a similar call at 16:20 from a man on behalf of the ETA, indicating the hour of the explosion and the characteristics of the vehicle. Then law-enforcement agencies were informed, but the explosion took place five minutes earlier than the mentioned hour.
