China's Vice-President Hu Jintao took a first-hand look at the heart of US stock market on Monday, ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

China's Vice-President Hu Jintao took a first-hand look at the heart of US stock market on Monday, ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

Vice President Hu, 59, who is due to meet US President George W. Bush on Wednesday at the White House, is on a six-day diplomatic visit to the United States.

Hu was later due to meet UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and New York civic leaders, before the most significant part of his program begins Tuesday in Washington.
