Trade volume between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland totaled 4.685 billion U.S. dollars in the first two months of this year, up 12.9 percent from the same period of last year, according to reports from Taipei Monday.
Trade surplus with the mainland totaled 2.952 billion U.S. dollars, up 19.7 percent.
The reports noted that world electronics giants have flocked to the mainland to produce notebook computers, LCD monitors, mobile phones and digital cameras under heavy pressure to cut costs.
The key parts and components in the mainland are still quite insufficient. Manufacturers still have to rely on imports.
All this will trigger future demand for parts and components from Taiwan, according to the reports.
