Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi said in Beijing Monday that there is great potential for the development of trade and economic cooperation between China and Lebanon.

Wu made the remark while meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

She said the ongoing exchange of visits between the Chinese and Lebanese leaders shows that both sides have a strong wish to strengthen bilateral relations. There is a great potential yet to be explored in trade and economic cooperation, she added.

"So long as we make joint efforts, we can greatly enrich our bilateral relations," she added.

Hariri said he and Chinese leaders had reached consensus on major bilateral and international issues during his current visit to China and he considers his visit a "success".

The prime minister said Lebanon is considering expanding its cooperation with China in various areas, and in trade and economic cooperation in particular, and will make efforts towards doing so.
