Abel Pacheco's Victory in Costa Rican Presidential Voting Confirmed
The Costa Rican Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) confirmed on Friday the victory of presidential candidate Abel Pacheco of the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC).

TSE released their definitive scrutiny of the April 7 runoff and granted Pacheco 57.96 percent of the votes, while Rolando Araya of the National Liberation Party (PLN) received 42.04 percent.
Pacheco, 68, received 772,278 votes, while Anaya received 563,202. Abstention reached 39.04 percent, the highest in the last 50 years.
Pacheco will take office on May 8 for a six-year term, succeeding party colleague Miguel A. Rodriguez.
Abel Pacheco, a psychiatrist, will be sworn in at Melico Salazar Theater in San Jose. The new legislative assembly, electedon February 3, will start work on May 1.
