OAU Central Organ Welcomes Ethio-Eritrea Border Ruling

The Organization of African Unity (OAU) has expressed its welcome to the acceptance by Ethiopia and Eritrea of the decision of the Boundary Commission as final and binding, according to a press release available Saturday in Addis Ababa.

The Organization of African Unity (OAU) has expressed its welcome to the acceptance by Ethiopia and Eritrea of the decision of the Boundary Commission as final and binding, according to a press release available Saturday in Addis Ababa.

The Central Organ of the OAU Mechanism for Conflict Prevention, Management and Resolution reiterated the OAU's determination to continue to support the peace process in a bid to bring about lasting peace in the region, added the release.

It also called upon the two countries to extend full cooperation to the Boundary Commission and the UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) with a view to expediting the demarcation process.

It urged the international community to provide assistance to support post conflict reconstruction efforts in the two countries in accordance with the Algiers peace agreement signed in December, 2000.
