Hu Jintao Meets Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

Science and technology are among the most promising fields for Sino-Singaporean cooperation, visiting Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao said during his meeting with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Saturday.

Science and technology are among the most promising fields for Sino-Singaporean cooperation, visiting Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao said during his meeting with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Saturday.

During their cordial meeting, the two leaders talked about exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of science and technology and human resources development.

Hu said that revolutionary scientific and technological breakthroughs are taking place in today's world and a country's vitality and vigorousness lie in its efforts to keep pace with the time and make full use of every opportunity available to achieve scientific and technological progress and give full play to innovations.

He expressed his hope that the two countries will strengthen their exchange and cooperation by complementing each other and giving a boost to scientific and technological innovations.

Hu pointed out that talents are essential in achieving scientific and technological progress and China is willing to further strengthen exchange and cooperation with Singapore in this fold.

Lee Hsien Loong said that the Singapore government fully agrees with the vice president's proposal on enhancing cooperation in science and technology, human resources development and the development of the western part of China.

He affirmed that Singapore will join efforts with China to promote exchange and cooperation in these areas and will designate government agencies concerned for the materialization of the proposal.

On his visit to Singapore, Hu said that he held in-depth discussions with the Singapore leaders on ways to further enhance Sino-Singaporean relations and exchanged views with them on a number of major regional and international issues.

He also said that his short visit has yielded substantial outcome and has increased his confidence in the prospect of future cooperation between China and Singapore.

Before the meeting, Hu visited the Singapore Civil Service College, a learning center for Singapore's civil servants.

Hu and his entourage left here for the United States Saturday afternoon to continue his three nation tour after successfully wrapping up his visits to Malaysia and Singapore.
