Nearly 500 fashion firms from more than 20 countries, including Italy, France and the United States, have come to exhibit their latest products at the 2002 Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival, which opened in Shanghai on Wednesday.
Italian firm Missoni, which has used Chinese raw materials, staged a fashion show targeting Chinese consumers on Thursday.
Vittorio Missoni said his company planned to open sales outlets in Shanghai within the year.
He said that fashion was still a fledgling industry in China and that the Chinese market was becoming more international after the country's accession to the World Trade Organization.
"The planned outlets are expected to become profitable after three years," he added.
China now is the world's largest clothing and textile raw materials producer.
