Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao, upon his arrival in Singapore on Friday, expressed his hope that his official visit to Singapore would give an impetus to the development of the friendly and reciprocal ties and cooperation between the two countries.
In a written statement issued at the airport, Hu said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Singapore in 1990, the bilateral relations have made enormous headway. The two sides have conducted effective exchanges and cooperation in many areas and enjoyed good coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.
It is the set policy of the Chinese Government to develop friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation with Singapore, he said.
Hu pointed out that in face of the profound changes in the international situation, reinforced cooperation between China and Singapore in the new century not only conforms to the common aspirations of the two countries and the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also helps promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
He said that during his visit he would have an in-depth exchange of views with Singaporean leaders on the furtherance of bilateral cooperation and on international and regional issues of common interest.
Singapore is the second leg of his three-nation tour, which will also take him to the United States. Malaysia was his first stop.
