Mig-29 Aircraft Missing in Northeast India

A Mig-29 military plane belonging to Indian Air Force (IAF) has been missing with two of its pilots on board for five days since last Saturday in India's northeast state of Assam, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).

The aircraft had taken off from a IAF airbase in Tezpur of Sonitpur district for routine morning sortie and went mission when it was flying over Darrang district of the state, the agency quoted sources from IAF as saying on Thursday.

Troops from Indian army, police and IAF personnel with the help of helicopters were on a vigorous search for the missing aircraft and its pilots, PTI said.

Fearing the aircraft might have crashed near Indo-Bhutan border, India had sought help from the Bhutan government, the sources said.

On April 10, a Mig-29 plane exploded into flames on its way from the coastal city of Goa and crashed in the south state of Karnataka, killing an pilot.
