Motorola will attract more overseas suppliers to China by purchasing more accessories and raw materials in the country, a company executive said in Beijing on Wednesday.

Over the next five years the company, the largest overseas investor in China, will spend as much as 10 billion U.S. dollars on buying local supporting products and related raw materials in the country, according to a just-finished Motorola global suppliers meeting here.

Motorola last year bought components and supporting products worth 1.4 billion U.S. dollars from over 700 Chinese manufacturers, representing 69 percent of its global figure.

The company has also announced that it will spend an extra one billion U.S. dollars on research and development in China in the coming five years, making Beijing one of its global research and development bases with the technology core sector to be stationed in the Chinese capital.

And according to its future development plan, by 2006, its output value in China will reach 10 billion U.S. dollars and its accumulated investment, 10 billion U.S. dollars.

Currently, Motorola has a combined investment of 3.4 billion U. S. dollars in the country.
