Chinese, Indian Officials Meet on Countering Terrorism

China and India held the first meeting on countering terrorism Tuesday in New Delhi within the dialogue mechanism initiated last January during Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji's visit to India. The two sides exchanged views on the international counter-terrorism situation, including its latest developments in the region.

China and India held the first meeting on counter terrorism Tuesday in New Delhi within the dialogue mechanism initiated last January during Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji's visit to India.

The two sides exchanged views on the international counter-terrorism situation, including its latest developments in the region, spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry Nirupama Rao told the media in her daily press briefing.

Both sides shared their national experiences on dealing with the phenomenon of terrorism and exchanged views of the international counter terrorism situation, cooperation within the frame of the United Nations and the possibility of bilateral cooperation.

The two sides agreed that the first meeting of the dialogue mechanism was useful in enhancing mutual understanding.

It was decided during the meeting that next round of the dialogue will be held in Beijing early next year.

The agreement to establish this dialogue mechanism was reached between Premier Zhu Rongji and his Indian counterpart Atal Behari Vajpayee in New Delhi early this year.

And during the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh to China last month, the two sides agreed that the dialogue be held annually.
