The head of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor has received the certified results of the territory's recent presidential election in which independence leader Xanana Gusmao won in a landslide, the U.N. officials said Monday.

The Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission delivered the certified results of the April 14 election to Sergio Vieira de Mello on Sunday for transmittal to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the officials said.

No formal complaints had been lodged with the board by any of the candidates or political parties involved in the election process, the U.N. officials quoted board chair Maria Aurora dos Reis as saying.

On April 17, the U.N. announced that Gusmao had gained 82.7 percent of the 378,548 ballots cast in the territory's first presidential election, outnumbering his only rival, Legislative Assembly Vice President Xavier do Amaral.

Gusmao will be the first head of state in the history of East Timor when it proclaims independence on May 20.
