Iran on Monday highlighted Chinese President Jiang Zemin's just-ended state visit to the Islamic Republic and termed it as positive.
Speaking at a press conference, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi noted that "the visit, particularly President Jiang's talks with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, was very positive and fruitful."
"Very fruitful talks and inking six letters of understanding in different areas, signed during President Jiang's visit to Iran, are serious indications of the two countries' efforts for further promotion of bilateral cooperation," he added.
The spokesman saw bright perspective for Sino-Iranian relations, believing that Tehran-Beijing bilateral, regional and international cooperation will be further promoted.
Iran, as an effective member of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and China, as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, may further promote their long-standing friendly ties in the future, he said.
At the invitation of Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, Jiang Zemin visited Iran on April 18-22 for a state visit. It is the last leg of President Jiang's five-nation tour, which has also taken him to Germany, Libya, Nigeria and Tunisia.
During his stay in the Islamic Republic, Jiang has met with leader Khamenei and held talks with his counterpart Khatami on enhancing bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation as well as international and regional issues of common concern.
