Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi said in Beijing on Monday that she hopes the upcoming 14th conference of the Sino-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) will result in a wide range of consensus and help boost bilateral trade and economic relations.
Wu made the remarks during a meeting with Donald Evans, United States' secretary of commerce, who is in Beijing to attend Tuesday's conference.
Wu said trade and economic cooperation, as part of the overall relationship between the two countries, played an important role in the stable development of China-US relations.
China paid great attention to developing relations with the United States, she said. She hoped the opening up of China's market following its entry into the World Trade Organization would be a driving force for the further growth of economic ties between the two countries.
Evans said he agreed with Wu's assessment of the economic relations between the two countries, and he expected to discuss with Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng a wide range of trade and economic issues at the conference.
