Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Sunday began talks with visiting Jordanian King Abdullah II over the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian lands, Egypt's state-run MENA news agency reported.
Their talks are also expected to focus on the outcome of the latest tour of U.S. Secretary of State Colin powell in the region and the contacts held currently in a bid to make Israel withdraw its forces from the Palestinian areas it reoccupied recently, said MENA.
Powell left Cairo last week following his 10-day Mideast trip, during which he failed to broker a ceasefire to put an end to the nearly-19-month-old Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Egypt and Jordan, the only two Arab nations to have signed peace treaties with Israel, have been closely coordinating their stances over the Mideast crisis, against the backdrop of the increasingly raging violence between Israel and the Palestinians.
Abdullah will travel on to Morocco for talks with Moroccan King Mohammed VI and Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdel-Aziz, who is currently on a visit to the kingdom, on the latest developments in the Middle East.
