The top official of the Chinese Football Association (CFA) announced a three-step hope for its men's team at the World Cup finals on the opening day of the national training camp in Kunming on Saturday.
China has won its first ever ticket to the World Cup finals to be kicked off in late May in South Korea and Japan.
Yan Shiduo, vice chairman of CFA, said in a warm-up speech: "Our target is to score a goal, earn a point by a draw game and then vie for a victory."
China scored 38 goals during its 14 Asian Zone qualifying matches for the World Cup played in last year.
"Each step can be regarded a breakthrough if we find the net once, have a draw once and win a preliminary game on our journey at the World Cup finals," Yan said.
The soccer-crazy country only entered the final stage at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, but finished with scoreless heat performances and conceded five goals.
"I hope we will not repeat the feat what we did at 1988 Olympic Games. The World Cup experience can be the most beautiful treasure in our whole life. I hope we can take the chance."
"It's time to sound the horn and built a new Great Wall of China's soccer,"he said.
China has been drawn in Group C of the World Cup finals, alongside Brazil, Costa Rica and Turkey.
