Chinese Premier Starts Official Visit to Egypt

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji arrived Cairo April 19 at the start of his five-day official visit to Egypt.

During his stay here, Zhu will have talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Prime Minister Atef Obeid and other Egyptian officials and discuss bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of common concern, the Chinese premier said in a written statement delivered at the airport.

He expressed satisfaction with the development of Sino-Egyptian ties, which stood the test of changes in the international arena, noting that high-level visits and frequent exchanges between peopleof various walks of life have further boosted such friendly ties, especially since the establishment of bilateral relations of strategic cooperation.

Zhu stressed that the strengthening of Sino-Egyptian exchanges and cooperation is of great importance at a time when the international relations are experiencing major changes.

He expressed confidence that his visit would further consolidateand strengthen the friendly and cooperation ties between the two countries.

Zhu flew in from Istanbul at the conclusion of a five-day official visit in Turkey. Egypt is the second leg of Zhu's three-nation tour, which will also take him to Kenya.
