The Northeast Asia Economic Forum is to be held in Weihai, a coastal city in east China's Shandong Province, on May 2nd and 3rd.
Participants include high-ranking officials, well-known entrepreneurs, academics and representatives of economic entities in Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and China.
The economic forum will concentrate on such topics as the influence of China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) on economic growth in Northeast Asian countries, economic development trends in Northeast Asian countries and 21st century challenges confronted by these countries and the world in general, and economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries in the framework of WTO.
Northeast Asia has a population of over one billion and comprises China, Japan, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Far East area of Russia. As one of the fastest growing areas in the world, its gross domestic product (GDP) makes up one fifth of the world's total.
Weihai has close economic ties with Northeast Asia as over 70 percent of its foreign investment comes from the region.
The city is also to host the Northeast Asia Industrial and Commercial Forum on May 27 and the Northeast Asia Economic and Trade Exposition in September.
