China, Cuba Prepared to Strengthen Sports Cooperation
The Chinese Olympic Committee president Yuan Weimin Thursday held talks with his Cuban counterpart Humberto Rodriguez, expressing a disposition to promote sports cooperation and exchange between the two countries.

Yuan said Cuba is both a Latin American and a world sports power, and that China learns a lot from the Caribbean country in areas such as baseball, boxing, athletics and volleyball.
Also, China is prepared to offer assistance to Cuba, should the island ask for a base of training at the Asian country as part of its preparation for the Beijing2008 Olympic Games.
On the other hand, Rodriguez, president of the Cuban Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), said Cuba is prepared to offer help to China in the mentioned sports, at the time it expects China assists Cuban athletes in the areas of diving, table tennis, badminton and weightlift.
He proposed a Sports Week be celebrated in the two countries.
During his stay in Havana - which will last until next Saturday - Yuan and the delegation of sports officials that accompany him, will visit the International School of Physical Education and Sports as well as the Anti-Doping Control Laboratory, both at this capital.
They will also visit the provinces of Cienfuegos and Villa Clara, in central Cuba, and by the last day of their stay in the Caribbean country, prior to departing for Mexico, both parties will sign a bilateral sports cooperation agreement.
Chinese Sports Minister Visited Cuba
The Chinese Olympic Committee president Yuan Weimin April 17 arrived in Cuba for an official visit aimed at signing a bilateral cooperation agreement on sports.
Yuan arrived in Havana after visiting Brazil, heading a Chinese sports delegation, and was welcomed by the president of the Cuban Sports, Physical Education and Recreation Institute (INDER), Humberto Rodriguez.
During his stay here, Yuan Weimin, who also is the president o the Organizing Committee of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, will hold talks with the vice president of the Council of Ministrs and head of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Jose Ramon Fernandez.
