China's First Baseball League to Open at April 26

China is to launch its first Baseball League from April 26 to May 25, according to an official of Chinese Baseball Association.

China is to launch its first Baseball League from April 26 to May 25, according to an official of Chinese Baseball Association.

For a start, China's Baseball League (CBL) will involve only four teams, who are the top four in China, namely, Beijing Tigers, Tianjin Lions, Shanghai Eagles and Guangzhou Lightening.

CBL to adopt professional rules
Shen Wei, Chairwoman of Chinese Baseball Association, said that the league will adopt the professional baseball rules - the competition features single round-robin format on a home-and-away basis and the players on the 4-week tour will play in four stops at Guangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin and Beijing, four major cities of China.

The final of the league between top two teams will be held at Beijing on May 25.

Each team is allowed to have three foreign players but only two are allowed to appear at the field at the same time.

Shen expected the baseball tournament to promote the sport all over China.

"It will be the first time for China to have its own baseball league. We hope baseball will be a popular sports after years promotion and the league is only a start."
