Arafat Expresses Condolences on Death of Chinese Citizens in Jerusalem
Yasser Arafat, chairman of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), recently sent a cable to President Jiang Zemin, expressing condolences on the unfortunate death of two Chinese citizens in an explosive incident occurred in Jerusalem.

In his April 14 telegram of condolences, Arafat said, "On behalf of the Palestinian people and in my own name, I express my sincere regards to Your Excellency, and through you, to the respected Chinese government and friendly Chinese people, and my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, and I wish an early recovery to the wounded."
He said, the Palestinian side has time and again condemned such act aimed at innocent civilians, whether it was perpetrated by Palestinians or Israelis.
Arafat maintained that the savage suppression, destruction and massacre done by Israeli occupation troops against the Palestinian people are the root causes of the explosive activities that make people boil with anger, activities carried out by those filled with hatred and disappointment."
The explosive incident occurred on April 12 in a market at the center of Jerusalem resulted in the deaths of six and injuries of over 70 people. It has been confirmed that among the deaths two were Chinese workers, and another two Chinese workers were injured.
