China commemorated the 100th birthday anniversary of Tan Zhenlin (1902-1983), a celebrated Chinese revolutionary, in Beijing Monday.
Addressing a discussion on Tan Zhenlin, Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao described Tan as a man who had contributed a lot to the development of China's revolutionary armed forces and the country's revolutionary and construction causes.
Hu, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, praised Tan's loyaltyto the cause of communism.
The discussion was presided over by Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao.
Tan, born in 1902, joined the revolution led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1925 and the CPC in the following year.
Tan served as political commissar of the 12th Army of the Red Army since 1927, and later deputy political commissar of the ThirdField Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Tan was appointed deputy secretary-general of the CPC Central Committee and vice-premier of the State Council after the foundingof the People's Republic in 1949.
He died of illness in Beijing on September 30, 1983.
