Host Cities of 2006 World Cup in Germany Announced

The matches of the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany will be played in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hanover, Kaiserslautern, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart, soccer' world governing body FIFA announced on Monday.

The matches of the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany will be played in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Hanover, Kaiserslautern, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart, soccer' world governing body FIFA announced on Monday.

The 12 cities were selected from 15 bidders. Duesseldorf, Bremen and Moenchengladbach fell by the wayside.

Organizers will decide at a later date which matches will take place in each city. However, Berlin's Olympic Stadium is expected to see the final while the opening game will likely be played in Munich's new Allianz-Arena.
