An Air China Boeing 767 crashed in South Korea on Monday and all 155 passengers and 11 crew members were feared dead, a transportation official said.
However, there were conflicting reports by local media that a dozen passengers survived the crash. The report has not been confirmed by South Korean aviation authorities.
Flight CA129 crashed in a residential area near the southern South Korean city of Gimhae while on a flight between Beijing and the city of Busan, a South Korean aviation official said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties on the ground.
S.Korea Official Says 39 Air China Crash Survivors
The number of survivors from an Air China passenger aircraft that crashed near South Korea's second largest city Monday stood at 39 as of 1:40 a.m. EDT, a South Korean official said.
Yoon Sun-jung, chief of the Home Affairs Ministry's situation room, spoke to Reuters by telephone from Seoul.
The Boeing 767 jet crashed earlier Monday while trying to land at Busan's Kimhae Airport amid heavy rain and thick fog.
Authorities had closed Kimhae airport more than two hours before the jet that flew from Beijing had crashed into a mountainside, local media said.
