Shanghai Mayor Meets Kissinger

Shanghai Mayor Chen Liangyu met here Sunday with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

Shanghai Mayor Chen Liangyu met here Sunday with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

Chen extended a warm welcome to Kissinger, who is in China to attend commemorative activities marking the 30th anniversary of the issuing of the Sino-U.S. Shanghai Communique.

Chen said the significant Shanghai Communique pushed forward and improved Sino-U.S. relations, noting that Kissinger has made special contribution to developing Sino-U.S. ties.

Kissinger said that Sino-U.S. relations have maintained the momentum of development although they have undergone ups and downsin the past three decades since the issuing of the Shanghai Communique.

Kissinger spoke highly of the rapid progress of Shanghai, whichwas achieved by the Chinese with no external assistance.
