U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell met with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat Sunday (April 14) morning for key talks on a ceasefire between the Palestinians and Israel to pave way for the resumption of political negotiations.
Powell has promised to bring hope to the Palestinians so as to facilitate the ceasefire talks, which are expected to lead to an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel as two neighboring countries.
During the last meeting, Powell presented to Arafat his vision to solve the conflict. However, he said, "this vision needs deep study by the Palestinian leadership. This vision can not be called initiative, it is just ideas."
The Palestinians confirmed to Powell that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) "would never discuss any security issue before Israel completely withdraws its troops and tanks from all cities it recently reoccupied."
