Beijing Strives for Best-ever Olympics in 2008, Says Mayor
Beijing's organizing work for the 2008 Olympic Games is going smoothly in accordance with the theme of "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics", Beijing Mayor Liu Qi said here on Saturday.

Li, also president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the 29th Olympiad (BOCOG), made the remarks when he met with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Beijing on Saturday.
"Beijing will try its utmost to stage a best-ever Olympic Games in history," said Liu.
Liu elaborated on how Beijing will keep its pledge in the upcoming six years.
"In order to build Beijing into an environment-friendly city under of the theme of 'Green Olympics', we will invest billions of US dollars in environmental protection projects." He said.
"High-tech Olympics means the Beijing Games will be served with advanced technologies, and People's Olympics requires the Beijing Games be an athlete-oriented Games."
Liu also said that all major projects in the build-up to the 2008 Games are open to international bid.
Doctor Kissinger, who has made great contribution to the Sino- US relationship, congratulated Beijing on winning the 2008 bid and said the Games would provide a good opportunity for the world to know more about Beijing and China.
