A bomb went off in the small hours Friday near the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, capital of Yemen, according to Yemen's informed sources.
The explosion took place at 2:40 a.m. local time (2340 GMT Thursday) in the Sheraton Hotel district where the U.S. Embassy is located.
Security was beefed up since this morning along the Sanaa streets and surrounding areas of the embassy, the sources said on condition of anonymity.
The Yemeni official media have not reported, or commented on theincident so far.
Sanaa has been witnessing mass demonstrations staged by Yemenis including students and women in the recent days. The demonstrators voiced solidarity with the Palestinian people.
They charged that the Israeli occupation forces under the hardline Prime Minister Ariel Sharon were committing the most horrific crimes and annihilation war against the Palestinian people.
