Chinese Premier Meets Chief Executives, Businessmen from HK, Macao

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met here Saturday with the chief executives of Hong Kong and Macao and business people from the two Special Administrative Regions (SAR).

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met here Saturday with the chief executives of Hong Kong and Macao and business people from the two Special Administrative Regions (SAR).

During his respective meetings with Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of Hong Kong SAR, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of Macao SAR, and people from the SARs' business circles, Zhu said both Hong Kong and Macao are SARs of China as well as highly influential cities in Asia, and business people from the two SARs have made great contributions to China's opening-up, reform, and modern construction, and have played their peculiar roles in linking up the country with Asia and the whole world.

He said he hoped that they will grasp the opportunity of Chinese interior area's economic and social development and follow the world economic development trend to tap their own potentials and increase their international competitiveness.

The Chinese premier also expressed his hope that the business people will show even greater support to their chief executives for the better development of Hong Kong and Macao under the "one country, two systems" principle.

The guests are here to attend the first annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) that opened in the coastal town of Hainan island Friday.
