Hundreds of Palestinians Killed in Jenin: Israel Army
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Friday morning that hundreds of Palestinians were killed earlier this week in the West Bank city of Jenin, Army Radio reported.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Friday morning that hundreds of Palestinians were killed earlier this week in the West Bank city of Jenin, Army Radio reported.
"There were apparently hundreds of dead," the IDF spokesman Ron Kitrey told the radio.
The spokesman denied, however, that Israeli soldiers had carried out what the Palestinian side described massacres in the Jenin refuge camp during the military operations in the West Bank.
The Palestinian National Authority on Thursday called on the United Nations to investigate the killings in the camp, where the IDF encountered the toughest straight resistance in the 18-month- old bloody conflict.
The Palestinians accused Israel of carrying out "massacres" in Jenin and elsewhere in the West Bank, and have said 500 Palestinians, mostly in the Jenin refuge camp, have been killed in Israel's "Operations of Defensive Wall."
Previously, the IDF had said that some 200 Palestinian fighters had been killed in the city.
