Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee rejected a plea by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) of Sri Lanka to lift the ban on the outfit and ruled out India's involvement in the Norwegian-brokered peace talks between the Sri Lanka government and the LTTE.

Shortly after his arrival from his five-day visit to Singapore and Cambodia, Vajpayee made it clear that his government had no intention to lift the 11-year old ban on the LTTE.

LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran reportedly came out of shadows to address a press conference on Wednesday for the first time in 15 years, during which he sought India's mediation to resolve the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka, saying that differences between the Tigers and New Delhi had caused Tamils a lot of suffering.

On Prabhakaran's demand that New Delhi plan a role in the peaceprocess in the neighboring country, Vajpayee told the media that "we are not going to be part of any negotiations or interfere in any talks between the Sri Lanka government and the LTTE."

However, the Indian prime minister said, his government could "sympathetically" consider the request to extend medical help to the ailing LTTE spokesperson Anton Balasingham.

On his visit to Singapore and Cambodia, Vajpayee said that Singaporean leaders clearly reaffirmed their desire to intensify bilateral interactions and to accelerate progress on various on-going streams of cooperation.

India and Cambodia agreed on a number of important ventures which could provide a framework for imparting dynamic orientation to be traditional relations between the two countries.
