Chinese President Continues State Visit to Germany

Chinese President Jiang Zemin left Berlin and traveled to the eastern German City of Dresden Thursday to continue his six-day state visit to Germany, where Jiang visited the world famous Art Gallery of Old Masters.

Jiang Zemin Arrives In Dresden

Chinese President Jiang Zemin left Berlin and traveled to the eastern German City of Dresden Thursday to continue his six-day state visit to Germany.

Jiang visited the world famous Art Gallery of Old Masters, which collected thousands of oil paintings by masters from Italy, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, in the morning after being greeted at the airport by Minister-President Kurt Biedenkoph of Saxong.

Jiang enjoyed the paintings very much, especially the authentic masterpiece of Raphael's Sistine Madonna.

Jiang is also scheduled to visit Meissen, Germany's porcelain center, tour an exhibition hall of treasures, and watch the manufacturing process. He will then attend an evening banquet hosted by Biedenkoph.

This is Jiang's second state visit to Germany since his first one in July 1995.

During his stay in Berlin, Jiang exchanged views with German President Johnannes Rau, and Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on bilateral ties and international issues of common concern.

Germany is the first leg of Jiang's five-nation trip, which will also take him to Libya, Nigeria, Tunisia and Iran. He leaves for Libya Saturday.
