The first annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia is scheduled for April 12-13 in China's southernmost province of Hainan.
More than 2,000 high-ranking government officials, experts, scholars and entrepreneurs from Asia, Europe and North America areexpected to gather together to discuss the development of Asian economy.
With its theme -- New Century, New Challenge and a New Asia: Asia Economic Cooperation and Development, the annual meeting willmainly focus on three areas -- the impact of global economic situation on the Asian economy, the measures for Asia's economic recovery and Asian economic cooperation, and the China's entry into the World Trade Organization and Asia's economic development.
To be discussed at the meeting are topics on financial, regional and sub-regional cooperation, China's economic growth andopening and Asia's common development, Asia's manufacturing industry and export competitiveness, energy, international investment, the environment and sustainable development.
Seminars will be held on Asia's finance toward the future, digital technology, the globalization and industrialization of mass media, and the development of digital resources.
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji is expected to make a keynote speech,while Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra of Thailand, Prime Minister Lee Han-dong of the Republic of Korea, and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam of Vietnam will also speak at the meeting.
