Kenya supports One China policy, and Kenya's position in this regard is straightforward and firm, the top legislator of Kenya said here Wednesday.

In meeting with a visiting Chinese delegation, Francis Kaparo, speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly, said that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an integral part of China, adding that Kenya's one China stand has remained and will always remain the same.

The Chinese delegation was headed by Chen Yunlin, minister of Taiwan Affairs under the State Council, and they arrived here on Monday for a three-day visit.

Chen briefed Kaparo on the issue of Taiwan and the principles and policies taken by the Chinese government to solve the issue.

"The basic principle of the Chinese government on the issue ofTaiwan is Peaceful Reunification and One Country, Two Systems," said Chen.

And the government successfully solved the issue of Hong Kong and Macao in 1997 and 1999, Chen noted, stressing that such principle can also apply to the issue of Taiwan, which should be more favorable.

He said that China is committed to pursuing reunification of Taiwan with mainland China through peaceful means, which is the best choice not only for China but also for the world.

However, he said that China shall never promise to renounce theuse of force, as some elements in Taiwan are still trying to splitthe country, and some international forces also have such mentality.

"Should it occur that Taiwan be separated from China, the Chinese government will only be forced to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity," Chen said.

Kaparo said that he has been to Hong Kong many times, and witnessed the favorable changes taken place in Hong Kong after it returned to China, adding that One Country Two System policy is a good way to solve the issue of Taiwan.

At the same day, Chen also met Kenyan Assistant Foreign Minister Sheldon Muchilwa, who said that the issue of Taiwan is aninternal matter of China and can only be solved by the Chinese people across the Taiwan Strait.
