Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will make a three-day visit to China's Hainan Island from Thursday to attend an economic forum for Asia and talk with the Chinese and Thai premiers on the sidelines of the event.

Koizumi will promote Japan's intention to cooperate various reforms of other Asian countries to boost economic ties with them in his keynote speech that he will deliver at the first annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia which starts Friday.

During the summit talks with Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji slated for Friday afternoon, Koizumi will seek China's agreement on a broader framework of Tokyo-Beijing economic dialogue.

In his talks with Zhu, Koizumi will seek an agreement with China on a plan to create a broader framework for economic dialogue covering various sectors such as trade and investment, Japanese Foreign Ministry officials said earlier.

The issues including bilateral trade and investment have been discussed in separate committees between Japan and China, and the leaders will seek a framework for bilateral dialogue which can comprehensively cover the issues.

Relations between Japan and China, which mark the 30th anniversary of normalization this year, are also expected to be on the agenda.

The economic forum is organized by a namesake nongovernmental group backed by the Chinese government under the theme of New Century, New Challenge, A New Asia: Economic Development and Cooperation.

Zhu and Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will also deliver keynote speeches at the event.

The Japanese premier will also meet with Thaksin on Friday afternoon. They are expected to discuss how to boost bilateral economic ties, the Japanese officials said.
