A parked passenger plane waiting for maintenance at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)rolled and smashed through a fence Wednesday, but no injuries were reported.

The American Airlines 767 came to a stop with its nose blockinga side street after smashing through the fence on the western edgeof the airport at 8:50 a.m. local time. "It was parked overnight outside a hanger for maintenance. Somehow it moved. They don't know how," LAX spokesman Harold Johnson said.

Airport authorities were trying to determine why the plane rolled despite that its parking brake was properly set. Johnson said it was unclear if the small blocks normally used to prevent the airplane wheels from moving had been used.

Some power lines were pull down by the plane, causing blackoutsin some buildings. But no injuries were reported and the airport operations were not affected. The extent of damage to the aircraftwas not known.

"An investigation is under way as to how the aircraft managed to move on its own," the American Airlines said in a statement issued from its office in Fort Worth, Texas.
