Chinese President on Ways to Maintain World Peace and Promote Common Development

Chinese President Jiang Zemin said Wednesday in Berlin that the correct ways to maintain world peace and promote common development are to meet the trend of the times and respect the interests and aspirations of all the countries to establish just, fair and new international political and economic orders.

In a speech to the Germany Society For Foreign Affairs, Jiang Zemin said to develop a multi-polarized world and respect the interests and aspirations of all the countries are the important bases for promoting world peace and development.

The establishment of a multi-polarized world not only meets the objective law of world development, but also reflects the common aspirations and interests of all the countries.

President Jiang said meeting the common challenges and solving the global problems required to promote the democratization of international relations and unite all of the countries and their peoples.

History has shown that any country or any force cannot meet the challenges and solve global problems strictly on its own efforts. All the countries, big or small, rich or poor, are equal members in the international community.

Jiang noted that recognition of the differences in the world can ensure that all countries live in peace and respect each other.

In the process of development, all countries create their own civilizations and social systems. The different civilizations and systems, which are complementary, should and can co-exist.

The Chinese President said to lead economic globalization in the right direction can help all the countries realize their common development.

The economic globalization can help to speed up the flow and priority allocation of financial resources and technology in the world. it contributes to the development of world productivity.

The developed countries are the main beneficiaries in the current process of the economic globalization, while the developing countries are getting marginalized. The international community should make joint efforts to realize the balanced and sustainable development of the world economy.

Jiang stressed a new security concept with mutual trust, mutualbenefits, equality and coordination at its core should be forged so as to build long-term stabilized circumstances of international peace.

All the countries in the world are interdependent in the issue of security and no country can achieve security without international cooperation. To meet challenges of the world security and realize lasting security, international cooperation in this field must be strengthened.

The terror attacks on the United States in September 11, 2001, which have been condemned worldwide, have demonstrated that terrorism has posed serious threat to the world peace and stability, and it has become a common scourge. The international community should promote dialogue and consultation and strengthen cooperation in its joint efforts to combat terrorism.

Germany is the first leg of President Jiang's current five-nation tour which will also take him to Libya, Nigeria, Tunisia and Iran.
