FM Spokeswoman: China to Continue Constructive Role in Korean Peninsula

China will continue playing a constructive role in easing tension on the Korean Peninsula, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Tuesday.

China will continue playing a constructive role in easing tension on the Korean Peninsula, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Tuesday.

Zhang said the presidential envoy of the Republic of Korea (ROK)Lim Dong-Won's visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) had seen positive results and the U.S. would also send envoys to the DPRK in the near future.

China welcomed the recent positive situation on the Korean Peninsula, hoping that dialog between the DPRK and ROK, the DPRK and the United States could be carried on to build mutual trust, strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation, and improve bilateral ties, Zhang said.

She pointed out that China was dedicated to easing tension on the Korean Peninsula and improving relations between the DPRK and ROK to realize peace and reunion independently. China supported DPRK efforts to improve ties with the U.S. and Japan.

China would join with the other countries to play a constructive role in solving Korean Peninsula issues.

China Welcomes Resumption of Dialogue on Korean Peninsula
China welcomes the resumption of dialogue between the north and south of the Korean Peninsula and looks forward to positive results to be made by the special envoy from the south, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Tuesday.

China has always held that the Korean Peninsula's problems should be solved through dialogue and cooperation between the two sides concerned since they are the ones who have the problem, Zhang said at a press conference.

China supports all measures favorable to peace and stability ofthe peninsula, and sincerely hopes that peace and stability will be maintained with constant improvement of relations between the two sides, she said.
