Over 300 local and foreign journalists have flocked to Sri Lanka's northern city of Kilinochchi to attend the historic press conference called for Wednesday evening by Tamil Tiger rebel leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.
Tipped to be one of the biggest media conferences in Sri Lanka in terms of the number of journalists that will be in attendance, it has generated intense interest world-wide.
According to the government Information department, among journalists who have registered to attend the conference are several internationally acclaimed journalists, bureau chiefs of news services and the electronic media.
The rebels have made arrangements to accommodate the journalists by providing lodging, meals and communication facilities.
The rebel leader's appearance at a press conference after 12 years is considered a breakthrough in the Norwegian brokered peace process and a positive sign for peace in the country.
