Life Expectancy of Taiwan's Aboriginals Lower Than Island's Average
The average life expectancy of Taiwan's aboriginal people was 67.4 years in 2001, or 7.9 years lower than the island's average, a report reaching here from Taipei said Tuesday.

The mortality rate among the island's aboriginal population was0.78 percent in 2001, or 1.4 times higher than the death rate among Taiwan's population as a whole, the report said.
The average life expectancy of Taiwan's aboriginal males was 62.7 years in 2001, while the average life expectancy of aboriginal females was 73.3 years, it said.
According to the report, the mortality rate among aboriginal people between 25 and 44 years of age was three times higher than the island's mortality rate.
Statistics compiled by the local health authorities also showedthat deaths due to accident or chronic liver disease among Taiwan's indigenous people has been relatively high, contributing significantly to the lower life expectancy among Taiwan's aboriginal people.
