Three mass graves have been discovered in central Afghanistan's Bamian province, a U.N. spokesman said Sunday in Kubal.
The previously unknown graves were discovered near the Bamian airport on Friday, and have aroused the attention of the U.N. mission in Afghanistan and the Afghan interim administration, U.N. spokesman Manoel de Almeida e Silva told reporters.
It is believed that inside the graves were members of the Hazara community in the area that had been killed by their opponents one month before the collapse of the Taliban, he said.
The local community have been advised not to excavate the graves to bury the dead before the graves are properly recorded, documented and verified, he said.
