Chinese climatic experts have called for integrating meteorological work into the general plan for the country's social and economic development.

At Saturday's closing session of China's first national conference on meteorology, the experts mapped out new perspectives and blueprints for the country's meteorological work in the coming 10 years.

In his closing address, Qin Dahe, director of the China Meteorological Administration, said that climate and climatic changes have a profound impact on the social and economic development of all countries, and are becoming a focal point in the international political and diplomatic arenas.

The conference also put forward a number of proposals on other issues such as the development of China's climatic monitoring and forecasting capabilities, the use of high-tech methods in the climatic work, and the increase of accuracy in climatic forecasts.

The experts suggested that in the next 10 years, China should work out and launch a series of special research programs on climatic phenomena such as monsoons and interactive movements between sea and land, the relations between human activities and climatic activities in different spheres, and the feed-back mechanism.

They also called on various departments to make concerted efforts for studies of the impact of climatic changes and in search of solutions to problems arising therefrom.
