Women's 50m breaststroke runner-up Luo Xuejuan of China said Friday she would beat Emma Igelstrom of Sweden and break the world record in the 100m event at the World Short-course Swimming Championships in Moscow, Russia.

The Chinese girl told Xinhua through his coach Zhang Yadong, "I 'm not satisfied with the silver medal, but the loss (in 50m) never depressed me. I will win the gold medal in the 100m."

Igelstrom won the 50m gold medal at 29.96 seconds on Thursday, the first athelete who swam into 30 seconds. Luo took the silver by 30.17, also broke the previous world record.

Coach Zhang said the 50m and 100m double gold medalist in Fukuoka World Swimming Championships was not in a good shape before Thursday's face-off. Luo promised to take a revenge in the 100m competition.

"She didn't attend regular training after the Spring Festival holiday (Chinese lunar festival in February). It's not easy for her to break the world record in the 50m," Zhang said. "But I believe she will get better at the 100m event."

"Igelstrom won't take the advantage she has at the 50m. She is taller, about 180cm, and stronger, which are very competitive at the shorter event. But in the 100m, Luo has the techenical edge over her," Zhang added.

The women's 100m event is set on Saturday and the championships is going to be called on Sunday.
