The Marine Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) has officially opened a one-stop-shop service to process all ship registration related applications, according to a government press release Friday.

The one-stop shop service was established in response to clients' comments about their inconvenience when they make applications for trading certificates at various sections of the Marine Department and other government department that were remotefrom the Shipping Registry.

Instead of having to apply for their ship registration in the Central's Harbor Building and application for a ship station licence from the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA)in Wan Chai as in the past, ship owners are able to make all the necessary applications at one point.

The office for the one-stop service is situated on the third floor of the Harbor Building in Central.

Marine Department's chief assistant registrar, Chan Ming-yau, said that ship owners still have the option to apply for their ship station licence directly from the OFTA instead of going through the one-stop-shop.
