Beijing Starts Preparing Olympic Look
A two-day seminar, sponsored by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), opened Friday in Beijing in a bid to search for the best Olympic look of the city.
A two-day seminar, sponsored by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), opened Friday in Beijing in a bid to search for the best Olympic look of the city.
The all-important look of the 2008 Beijing Olympics will gradually take shape in the following six years with the seminar as the first step.
Some 80 designers and Olympic experts present at the meeting agreed that Beijing should have an Olympic look particular to itself by blending the Olympic spirit with the characteristics of the Chinese capital.
"The seminar plays a crucial role in the preparation for the Olympics," said Liu Jingmin, deputy executive president of BOCOG.
"It marks the inauguration of the 'Olympic Look Project', which,to a great extent, will determine the success of the Games," he added.
One of the priorities for the Project is to find a new logo to replace the old one, which is shaped like a person playing "Taiji",the country's traditional shadow boxing.
The old emblem, launched for Beijing's Olympic bid campaign, remains in use even after the BOCOG was set up late last year.
The BOCOG has decided to hold a logo-designing conference in July, gathering all elite experts from across the globe.
"We hope the new logo is able to embody the time-honored oriental civilization and the Olympic spirit," said Liu.
